The day before new year, I remember being in a state of awe. It is not often I find myself dumb- founded. Here, I was surrounded by breath-taking beauty of the greatest magnitude (High Atlas, Morocco). The valleys felt so remote, and indeed a far cry from the hustle and bustle of England.
I remember thinking what better way to end the year than with my most loved, treasured and somewhat annoying ones.
What a year it had been!
I had turned 30 years old, my Son had started school. I had cut my hair into a ‘lob’. For those of you who know me, my hair has been my crowning glory for so long – this was kind of a big deal. We travelled to Miami; drove on the Seven-Mile bridge to Key West. The list could go on…
But, I have also had moments of self-doubt, periods where I have felt so low, I can only liken it to being trapped in a black hole, unable to find my way out. I have felt loss, sadness and a lack of control. As the cliché goes ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’. Physically I am a 5 foot 2 (Smurf) girl, but mentally I feel so strong!
I have listed things I am going to tackle in 2018. I will leave a note when these goals have been accomplished. Yay beans!
Learn to swim
My fellow Quirky-nators; I am ashamed to say I cannot swim without drowning. This year, at the young age of 30 (and a bit) years old. I am finally going to do it. I will no longer hold my daughter in a pool, as a shield and to distract from the fact that I cannot swim.
Note: You guys I have taken 6 lessons, and I can now do front stroke, and breast stroke- unaided. If there was ever a time to say boom shakalaka …this would be now!!
Ride a Bike
Before you say/think your Father has failed you. I think I failed my Father, my lack of willingness to move (you guys I was fat), may have been one of the many reasons my Pops gave up on teaching me (don’t worry Pops I have your back). My husband bought me a bike 5 year ago, but then expected me to get on and ride the bike (after helping me for all of 5 minutes). What the hell. So, I am going to book a professional bike lesson and learn.
Write a blog
A natural progression from being a verbal blogger; with an opinion on everything. I thought why not put pen to paper, or fingers on keyboard.
Note: I think it is safe to say this one is a work-in-progress.
Food for thought…What was your one highlight in 2017 and have you made/accomplished any new goals in 2018? Please leave your comments below.
